How to save a ChatGPT chat as Markdown for Obsidian or Notion

Your own prompts are the first thing lost when you copy ChatGPT replies one at a time, because the copy button under each reply grabs only that reply. Drop it into an Obsidian vault or import it into Notion, and the conversation reads like any other note.
Markdown is the format people reach for when a ChatGPT conversation is worth keeping next to their other notes. Copy a single reply
Hover a ChatGPT reply and click the copy icon under it. The reply keeps its Markdown when you paste it, but your prompt and the surrounding messages stay behind.

Export the thread from GPT Master
With GPT Master installed, open the chat, click Export beside the message box, and choose Download as text (Markdown). Right-clicking the chat in the GPT Master sidebar offers the same option. The file is named after the chat title and the date, for example Product-Launch-Plan-2026-09-29.md.

Move the file into Obsidian or Notion
For Obsidian, drag the .md file into your vault folder. Each message becomes a User or Assistant heading with its timestamp, so the thread shows up in search and backlinks. For Notion, use Import, pick Text & Markdown, and select the file; headings, lists, tables, and code blocks convert into Notion blocks.

- Are citation markers from web search answers included?
- No. ChatGPT embeds hidden citation tokens in answers that used web search. The export strips them, so they do not show up as stray symbols in your notes. Regular links in the text are kept.
- What happens to canvas documents?
- A canvas document ChatGPT created in the chat is included in the file. Edits you made to the canvas later are not, and the file adds a note where that applies.
- Can I export every chat in a folder at once?
- Not today. GPT Master exports one conversation at a time. The account export in ChatGPT Settings covers everything at once.
