How to bookmark a ChatGPT reply
Updated May 27, 2026
Quick answer
There is no native bookmark in ChatGPT. Replies scroll away as conversations grow, and the only way back is manual scrolling or a text search that only works if you remember the exact wording. With GPT Master installed, hovering any reply reveals a star you can click to bookmark that specific message. Bookmarks persist across sessions, appear in a searchable right-panel tab, and let you jump back to the exact message with one click.
A useful ChatGPT reply is easy to lose inside a long thread. Scrolling back to it takes time, and the conversation history gives you no shortcut to a specific exchange. Bookmarking solves that by saving the reply itself, not just the conversation, so you can return to the exact message in a single move.
- 1
Hover the reply you want to keep
Move your cursor over the assistant reply. A star icon appears alongside the message controls at the edge of the reply. The icon is visible on both user prompts and assistant messages.
- 2
Click the star to save the bookmark
Click once to save the reply to your Bookmarks tab. The star fills to indicate it is saved. Remove the bookmark the same way, by clicking the filled star to unsave.
- 3
Return to the reply from the Bookmarks tab
Open the GPT Master right panel and go to Bookmarks. Click the saved entry to jump back to that reply inside the conversation. If the reply is in a different chat, clicking it opens that chat and scrolls to the right message.

Frequently asked questions
- Can I bookmark assistant replies and my own prompts?
- Yes. The star icon appears on both user prompts and assistant replies when you hover over them. You can bookmark either side of an exchange.
- Do bookmarks survive if I close and reopen the browser?
- Yes. Bookmarks are stored in browser extension storage, which persists across sessions. They are available the next time you open ChatGPT on the same machine.
- What happens if I delete a conversation?
- If you delete the ChatGPT conversation that contained a bookmarked message, the bookmark entry remains in your list but the underlying conversation is gone. Clicking it will not navigate to the deleted chat.
- Which browsers does this work in?
- Chrome, Edge, Brave, Arc, and Opera. Any Chromium-based browser that supports Chrome extensions.
