How to highlight the best parts of a ChatGPT conversation
Updated May 27, 2026
Quick answer
Reading a long ChatGPT conversation a second time to find the standout exchanges wastes the time the first conversation already spent. The usual workaround is scrolling through the thread again or running Ctrl+F on a phrase you half-remember, and ChatGPT shows no summary or highlights of a thread. GPT Master adds a star to every message so you can mark the best replies as you read. Bookmarked messages collect in the Bookmarks tab under Current Chat, giving you a condensed view of the highlights from any conversation without re-reading the surrounding discussion.
After a productive ChatGPT session, a few replies tend to carry most of the value: the right framing, the useful output, the clarification that unlocked the rest. Per-message bookmarks let you mark those highlights in real time, so reviewing the best parts of a conversation later means reading your saved list rather than the full thread.
- 1
Star the standout messages as the conversation unfolds
Hover any message you consider a highlight and click the star icon. You can bookmark multiple messages in a single session, building a highlights reel of the conversation as it develops.
- 2
Switch to Current Chat in the Bookmarks tab
Open the GPT Master right panel and go to Bookmarks. The Current Chat view shows only the starred messages from the open conversation, in order. This is a condensed version of the thread focused on the parts you marked.
- 3
Jump to any highlight from the list
Click a bookmark entry in the Current Chat view to scroll to that message in the full conversation. This lets you move between highlights without reading the exchanges between them.

Frequently asked questions
- Can I highlight both sides of an exchange, not just the assistant reply?
- Yes. You can star both user prompts and assistant replies. If the question was as important as the answer, star both. They appear together in the Current Chat bookmarks view.
- Is there a way to export or share my bookmarked highlights?
- Not directly from GPT Master. Bookmarks are stored locally in the extension and are not exportable in the current version. You can copy the message text from the conversation manually.
- Do highlights from the Current Chat view also appear in All Bookmarks?
- Yes. Every bookmark appears in both views. Current Chat filters the All Bookmarks list to show only messages from the open conversation.
- What happens to my highlights if the conversation is archived?
- The bookmarks remain in your list. Clicking an archived conversation bookmark reopens that conversation in ChatGPT and jumps to the highlighted message.
