How to save specific ChatGPT messages
Updated May 27, 2026
Quick answer
ChatGPT has no built-in way to save a specific message. Most people copy the reply into a notes app or take a screenshot, both of which break the link back to the original conversation and add a second tool to keep in sync. GPT Master adds a star icon to every ChatGPT message. Click it to save that message to the Bookmarks tab in the right panel, where you can search it, view all starred messages across every chat, and jump back to any one in a single click.
Scrolling back through a long ChatGPT thread to find one specific reply takes longer than it should. Marking the reply when you first read it keeps the useful answer one click away instead of buried under follow-up messages. GPT Master adds per-message bookmarks so the replies worth keeping stay reachable.
- 1
Hover the message to reveal the star
Move your cursor over any ChatGPT user prompt or assistant reply. A small star icon appears alongside the message controls. The star is per-message, not per-conversation, so you can save one specific answer inside a 200-message thread.
- 2
Click the star to bookmark it
Click the star and the message is saved to your Bookmarks tab. The star fills to confirm. You can bookmark as many messages as you like across any number of conversations.
- 3
Open the Bookmarks tab to find it later
Click the GPT Master right panel and switch to Bookmarks. Use the Current Chat view to see starred messages in the open thread, or All Bookmarks to search across everything. Click any entry to jump straight to that message.

Frequently asked questions
- Where do saved ChatGPT messages go?
- Bookmarked messages appear in the Bookmarks tab inside the GPT Master right panel. Two views are available: Current Chat shows only the starred messages from the open conversation, and All Bookmarks shows every starred message across all your chats.
- Does saving a message change the ChatGPT conversation?
- No. The bookmark is stored inside the extension, not in your ChatGPT account. ChatGPT never sees it, and the conversation history is unchanged.
- Can I search my saved messages?
- Yes. The Bookmarks tab includes a search box that filters by message text across both the current chat and all bookmarks.
- Is there a limit on how many messages I can save?
- Free covers a starter set that suits most users; Pro is unlimited. The pricing page has the current numbers.
