How to delete all ChatGPT chats at once

Updated July 13, 2026

Quick answer

You can. Open ChatGPT Settings, go to Data controls, and choose Delete all chats to erase your entire history in one action. The catch is that it is all or nothing, with no way to keep a handful and clear the rest. When you want everything gone except a few, GPT Master lets you set those keepers aside and delete the rest in a single pass. Free covers a starter cleanup; Pro lifts the cap.

Wiping your ChatGPT history sounds like it should be one button, and for a full erase it nearly is. The part people get stuck on is the exception: they want months of clutter gone but need to hang on to two or three conversations that still matter. ChatGPT's delete-all does not bend that way. Here is the native route first, then the selective one for when all-or-nothing is too blunt.

GPT Master with all but a few ChatGPT conversations selected for deletion while starred chats remain
Native delete-all is all or nothing. GPT Master clears everything except the chats you keep.
  1. 1

Use ChatGPT's built-in Delete all chats

Open Settings from your profile menu, go to Data controls, and select Delete all chats. Confirm, and your entire conversation history clears at once. This is the fastest route when you want everything gone.

  2. 2

Decide whether you need to keep anything

If even one conversation is worth saving, stop before the full wipe. The native delete-all has no exclusions, so a single chat you care about makes it the wrong tool. That is the moment to set your keepers aside first.

  3. 3

Clear everything except your keepers with GPT Master

Install GPT Master and open chatgpt.com, then hover any row to reveal its checkbox. Star your keepers or move them into a folder, select everything else, and delete in one confirm. Your history clears down to only what you chose to keep.

Frequently asked questions

Where is the Delete all chats option in ChatGPT?
In Settings, under Data controls. Look for Delete all chats and confirm. It removes every conversation in your history in one action.
Can I delete all chats but keep a few?
Not with the native button, which is all or nothing. Set the ones you want aside first by starring them or moving them to a folder, then use GPT Master to select and delete the rest.
Does Delete all chats also clear archived chats or memory?
Delete all chats clears your conversation list. Archived chats and saved memory are handled separately in Settings, so check each one if you want a complete reset.
Is a full delete reversible?
No. Once you confirm, the conversations are gone from your account. Export anything you might need before you clear everything.
