How to delete multiple Claude chats at once

Claude can delete chats in bulk, despite what many guides say. On claude.ai, open Chats and tasks, click Select at the top right, tick the chats you want or click Select all, then click Delete. The same toolbar can also pin a selection, add it to a project, or move it to a group. Deleting is permanent, so check the selected count before you confirm.
A common claim online says Claude deletes one chat at a time. That is out of date: the Chats and tasks page has a selection mode. Export first if you want a copy of anything. This guide covers claude.ai chats, not Claude Code or the API, and notes where selection stops being enough.

Open Chats and tasks
Go to claude.ai/recents, titled Chats and tasks. It lists your conversations, including chats started inside projects. The same heading labels the chat section of the left sidebar.

Switch on selection mode
Click Select at the top right. Every row gets a checkbox, and the header shows 0 selected next to a Select all button.

Pick the chats
Tick chats one by one, or click Select all. A ticked row can be unticked by clicking it again, and the header keeps a running count such as 12 selected.

Delete and check what is left
Click the Delete icon in the toolbar and confirm. If older chats are still listed afterwards, scroll down so more load, then run Select all and Delete again. Exit selection leaves the mode without deleting anything.

- Is it true that Claude has no bulk delete?
- No. Claude has bulk delete on the web. Claude's help article on deleting chats describes the selection mode on Chats and tasks, and some older write-ups are from before it existed. For the iPhone and iPad app, Claude documents only single delete.
- Can I delete every Claude chat at once?
- Select all, then Delete, clears the list. Repeat it if more chats load as you scroll. Anthropic has no separate button to delete every chat. The only other route is to delete the whole account.
- Are deleted chats gone for good?
- They leave your history right away, and Anthropic says they are removed from its back end within 30 days. There is no undo, so export first if you might want a copy.
- Does deleting chats delete my Projects?
- No. Projects stay when you delete chats, so you can clear conversations and keep project files.
